Erectile Dysfunction Treatment

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to commonly asked questions by patients seeking treatment with Hormone Optimization & Sexual Wellness.

  • How do I know if my hormones are 'out of balance'?
Hormone changes can show up in different ways for different people. Common symptoms include low energy, weight changes, reduced libido, sleep problems, mood changes, brain fog, and difficulty building or maintaining muscle mass.

The only way to know for sure is through a medical evaluation and lab testing. During your consultation, we review your symptoms, health history, and lab results to determine whether hormone therapy is appropriate — and to rule out other causes.
  • Is hormone therapy safe?
When properly prescribed and monitored under physician supervision, hormone therapy can be both safe and effective for appropriately selected patients.

Your plan is personalized based on:

    • lab results

    • medical history

    • risk factors

    • your goals

We use the lowest effective dose and monitor your response closely with follow-up visits and periodic labs. Not everyone is a candidate, and safety always comes first.
  • How soon will I notice improvement?
This varies from person to person and depends on which hormones are being optimized. Some patients notice improvements in energy, sleep, and mood within a few weeks, while changes in body composition, libido, and sexual function may continue improving over several months.

Hormone optimization is a process, not a quick fix, and results are monitored and adjusted over time.
  • Can hormone therapy help with low libido or sexual dysfunction?
In many cases, yes. Testosterone, estrogen, thyroid function, vaginal health, pelvic floor function, stress, and relationship factors can all influence sexual wellness.

We look at the whole picture, not just a single hormone level. Treatment may include hormone optimization, sexual-wellness therapies, lifestyle recommendations, or referral when appropriate. Your plan is individualized and focused on both safety and quality of life.

Erectile Dysfunction Treatment

Private • Medical • Physician-Led

Erectile dysfunction is common and treatable. It can also be a sign of other health problems.

Erectile dysfunction (ED) means difficulty getting or keeping an erection firm enough for sex. It affects many men, especially with age, and it is rarely "just in your head". Blood flow, diabetes, hormones, medications, stress and nerve problems can all play a part.

At Valoura Med Spa, a board-certified physician at our clinic in Savoy, a few minutes from Champaign and Urbana, looks for the cause first, because ED can be an early warning sign of heart disease or diabetes.

WHY A MEDICAL EVALUATION MATTERS

The small blood vessels in the penis can show problems before the larger vessels around the heart do. That is why ED in otherwise healthy men is sometimes the first sign of heart disease, high blood pressure or diabetes. We check your history and, where needed, your blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and testosterone.

OUR ED TREATMENT OPTIONS

More than a prescription.

Many men come to us after already trying ED tablets or having their testosterone checked. We offer a broader range of treatments, chosen around the cause of your ED and your goals.

  • ✓ Prescription medications – tablets such as sildenafil or tadalafil. Often a first option; not safe with nitrate medicines
  • ✓ Vacuum erection devices – a device placed over the penis that uses gentle suction to draw blood in and create an erection. Medication-free; can be used alone or with other treatments
  • ✓ Hormone treatment – testosterone treatment when clinically indicated. Only after lab testing shows it is needed
  • ✓ Medical and lifestyle factors – blood pressure, blood sugar, weight, sleep, alcohol and smoking. Can improve ED and overall health

Your physician recommends the option, or combination of options, that suits you.

EMERGING ED TREATMENT OPTIONS

Newer approaches for men who want more options.

For men who want to explore options beyond tablets, Valoura also offers two newer treatments. Both are still being studied, and outcomes vary from person to person. Your physician explains what current research shows, what remains uncertain and whether either treatment is a good fit for you.

  • ✓ PRP/PRF therapy – prepared from your own blood and injected after numbing, with the aim of supporting blood flow and tissue health. See PRP/PRF for Men's Sexual Wellness.
  • ✓ Low-intensity extracorporeal shockwave therapy (Li-ESWT) – a series of gentle, low-energy sound-wave pulses applied to the penis, with the aim of supporting blood flow. It uses no needles.

RESULTS TIMELINE

Typical Results Timeline

Every patient is different. These are typical ranges, not a promise, and your physician will set your plan.

  • ✓ Oral medication: often works within about an hour when taken as directed
  • ✓ Treating underlying causes: improvement can take weeks to months
  • ✓ Emerging treatments (PRP/PRF, Li-ESWT): any change usually develops gradually, and outcomes vary
  • ✓ Number of sessions for emerging treatments: individualized – planned after your consultation
  • ✓ Follow-up: usually within the first few weeks, to review how treatment is working

WHAT TO EXPECT

  1. A private consultation: history, medications and lifestyle.
  2. Examination and labs where needed.
  3. A plan in plain language.

WHO SHOULD BE CAREFUL

Please tell us if you:

  • ✓ Take nitrate medicines for chest pain, such as nitroglycerin – ED tablets must not be taken with them
  • ✓ Have heart disease or have been told to avoid sexual activity
  • ✓ Have had a heart attack or stroke recently
