Weight Loss Without GLP-1

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to commonly asked questions by patients seeking treatment with Medical Weight Loss (DNA-Based).

  • How fast will I lose weight?
Results vary, but most patients experience steady, gradual weight loss rather than rapid drops. Our focus is on safe and sustainable progress, not crash dieting.

The healthiest and most maintainable rate of loss is typically:

    • 1–2 pounds per week on average

Weight can fluctuate from week to week — trends over time matter more than the scale on any single day.
  • What happens if I stop the medication?
If you stop medication, your appetite and metabolism will gradually return to their natural baseline. This does not make you "worse" than before, but without a maintenance plan, weight regain is common — just as it is after stopping any treatment that was helping.

    That's why our program emphasizes:

    • metabolic health

    • lifestyle coaching

    • relapse-prevention strategies

    • follow-up after medication

We help you keep the results, not just achieve them.
  • What are GLP-1 medications?
Medicines that act like a hormone your gut releases after eating. They reduce appetite and help you feel full for longer. Semaglutide acts on the GLP-1 pathway; tirzepatide acts on two pathways, GLP-1 and GIP.
  • What medication will I be prescribed?
There is no one-size-fits-all medication. Options may include GLP-1 medications or other evidence-based therapies. Your prescription depends on:

    • your medical history

    • current medications

    • labs and safety profile

    • goals and timeline

Some patients are not candidates for certain medications — in those cases we discuss safe and effective alternatives. Medication is only started when it is medically appropriate.
  • Semaglutide or tirzepatide – which is right for me?
Both can lead to significant weight loss. The right choice depends on your health, side effects, cost and availability, and your physician decides it with you.
  • Can I combine this with GLP-1 medication?
Yes, if it is medically appropriate. Many patients use their results to shape nutrition while on medication.

Medical Weight Loss Without GLP-1 Medications

Non-Surgical • No GLP-1 • Physician-Supervised

Medical weight loss for people who cannot use, or prefer not to use, GLP-1 medication.

GLP-1 medications are not right for everyone. Some people do not qualify, some have side effects, and some simply prefer not to use them. Others have already used them and want help keeping the weight off. This program gives you medical support to lose weight without GLP-1 medication.

It is planned and supervised by a board-certified physician at Valoura Med Spa in Savoy, a few minutes from Champaign and Urbana.

MEDICATION AND INJECTIONS FOR SELECTED PATIENTS

Vitamin injection used in medical weight loss at Valoura Med Spa

For selected patients, your physician may recommend MICC injections – a blend of methionine, inositol, choline and vitamin B12 – or a non-GLP-1 prescription medication such as phentermine-topiramate or naltrexone-bupropion. These are chosen by your physician based on your health history, other medications and goals. They are not suitable for everyone – for example, during pregnancy or with certain heart, seizure or eye conditions – and not every plan includes them.

KEEPING WEIGHT OFF AFTER GLP-1

When GLP-1 medication stops, appetite often returns and weight can come back. A maintenance plan – built before you stop – helps. We look at eating patterns, protein intake, strength training and regular follow-up to help protect the progress you have made.
