PRF Therapy

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to commonly asked questions by patients seeking treatment with Regenerative Medicine.

  • PRP/PRF or a cortisone injection?
They work differently. Cortisone is a steroid that reduces inflammation; PRP and PRF are prepared from your own blood. Neither is better for everyone – which is more suitable depends on your condition, history and goals, and your physician explains the options.
  • What can PRF be used for?
At Valoura we use PRF and PRP for the face, the under-eye area, thinning hair, selected joint pain and sexual wellness. Each has its own page with details.
  • Do I need an X-ray or MRI?
Sometimes. Your physician reviews any existing imaging and may order additional imaging when clinically indicated. Please bring any imaging you already have.
  • Does PRF work for hair loss?
It is best studied for common pattern hair thinning in men and women. Many patients see less shedding and thicker-looking hair, but not everyone responds, and it cannot regrow hair where the follicles are gone.
  • Who is a good candidate for regenerative medicine?
Good candidates are adults seeking non-surgical options to support healing, skin quality, hair restoration, or intimate wellness.

You may be a candidate if you are in generally good health and want to:

    • improve skin tone/texture

    • support hair growth

    • enhance sexual wellness

    • boost post-procedure recovery

A consultation determines the safest and most effective approach for your specific goals.
  • What kinds of results can I expect?
Most patients notice gradual improvement in skin quality, texture, hair fullness, or sexual function over several weeks as the body responds to treatment. Results vary based on the treatment type, area treated, and your overall health.

Regenerative medicine is designed to support and enhance your body's own repair processes, not as an instant or "overnight" solution.

PRF Therapy

Your Own Blood • Individualized • Physician-Led

A regenerative treatment made from a small sample of your own blood.

PRF, or platelet-rich fibrin, is prepared from a small sample of your own blood. After centrifugation, a platelet-rich preparation containing growth factors within a natural fibrin matrix is collected and used for treatment.

At Valoura Med Spa, PRF treatments are planned and overseen by a board-certified physician at our clinic in Savoy, a few minutes from Champaign and Urbana. We use both PRF and PRP, and this page explains how they are used. Each treatment area has its own page.

PRF AND PRP AT VALOURA

Both are prepared from your own blood.

Both PRF and PRP are prepared from a patient's own blood and concentrate components involved in tissue repair and signaling. Differences in preparation affect their cellular composition, fibrin structure and handling characteristics. At Valoura, we use both PRP and PRF and select the approach based on the treatment area, procedure and individual patient.

HOW PRF AND PRP ARE PREPARED

  1. Blood draw: a small sample from your arm, similar to a routine blood test.
  2. Spinning: the sample is spun in a centrifuge. The method depends on whether PRF or PRP is being prepared.
  3. Separation: the platelet-rich layer is collected.
  4. Treatment: the PRF or PRP is applied or injected soon after.

A NOTE ON EVIDENCE

PRF and PRP have been used in dentistry, surgery and wound care for many years. In aesthetic and regenerative medicine, studies report benefits for skin quality, thinning hair and some types of joint pain, but the research is still developing, many studies are small, and results vary from person to person. We do not promise a specific outcome. Our physician tells you what the evidence shows for the treatment you are considering.
