GLP-1 Weight Loss

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to commonly asked questions by patients seeking treatment with Medical Weight Loss (DNA-Based).

  • Will I need to be on medication forever?
Not necessarily. Medications such as GLP-1s are tools — not a life sentence. Our goal is to help you lose weight safely, stabilize, and then create a long-term maintenance plan.

Many patients transition to a lower dose or discontinue medication after achieving their goals, while focusing on sustainable habits and metabolic health. Your plan is individualized and always supervised by a physician.
  • Semaglutide or tirzepatide – which is right for me?
Both can lead to significant weight loss. The right choice depends on your health, side effects, cost and availability, and your physician decides it with you.
  • What are GLP-1 medications?
Medicines that act like a hormone your gut releases after eating. They reduce appetite and help you feel full for longer. Semaglutide acts on the GLP-1 pathway; tirzepatide acts on two pathways, GLP-1 and GIP.
  • Do you prescribe brand-name or compounded medication?
Both. We use FDA-approved branded medications and, when clinically appropriate, compounded medication. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved products. Your physician explains which option is recommended for you and why.
  • What happens if I stop the medication?
If you stop medication, your appetite and metabolism will gradually return to their natural baseline. This does not make you "worse" than before, but without a maintenance plan, weight regain is common — just as it is after stopping any treatment that was helping.

    That's why our program emphasizes:

    • metabolic health

    • lifestyle coaching

    • relapse-prevention strategies

    • follow-up after medication

We help you keep the results, not just achieve them.
  • Will my genes decide how much weight I lose?
No. Genes are one factor among many. Habits, sleep, stress, hormones and medication all matter too.

GLP-1 Medical Weight Loss

Semaglutide • Tirzepatide • Physician-Supervised

Prescription weight loss medication, with the medical support to use it safely.

GLP-1 medications such as semaglutide and tirzepatide work with your body's appetite hormones. They help you feel full sooner and stay full longer, so eating less feels less like a fight. Combined with changes to nutrition and activity, they have led to significant weight loss for many people in clinical trials.

At Valoura Med Spa, GLP-1 treatment is prescribed and monitored by a board-certified physician at our clinic in Savoy, a few minutes from Champaign and Urbana. We start low, adjust carefully and follow up regularly.

SEMAGLUTIDE VS. TIRZEPATIDE

GLP-1 medication for physician-supervised weight loss at Valoura Med Spa
  • ✓ How it works: semaglutide acts on the GLP-1 pathway; tirzepatide acts on two pathways, GLP-1 and GIP
  • ✓ How it is taken: both are a weekly injection
  • ✓ Approximate average weight loss in major trials: about 15% of body weight with semaglutide; about 20% at the highest dose of tirzepatide
  • ✓ Common side effects: for both, nausea, constipation and diarrhea

These figures are approximate averages from separate major clinical trials lasting roughly a year and a half, with lifestyle support. They are not a direct comparison of the two medications and do not predict individual results.
