Chemical Peels

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to commonly asked questions by patients seeking treatment with Skin Rejuvenation.

  • Does it hurt?
Numbing cream is applied first. Most patients feel warmth and pressure rather than pain. The neck and jawline can be more sensitive than the cheeks.
  • How much downtime should I expect?
Downtime is minimal. Most patients experience:

    • redness similar to a sunburn for 24–48 hours

    • mild dryness or flaking as the skin renews

Makeup can usually be worn the next day, and most normal activities can be resumed the same day. We provide simple aftercare instructions to support healing.
  • How is RF microneedling different from regular microneedling?
Traditional microneedling uses controlled microinjury to stimulate collagen production. RF microneedling adds radiofrequency energy beneath the skin, allowing treatment of deeper tissue. This makes it particularly useful for concerns such as skin laxity, deeper wrinkles, acne scars, and texture.
  • Is exosome therapy safe?
When sourced from reputable, FDA-regulated manufacturers and applied by trained medical professionals, exosome products used for skin rejuvenation have an excellent safety profile.

We review your medical history, allergies, and current skin condition to ensure that treatment is appropriate for you. As with any treatment, mild redness or sensitivity may occur temporarily after application.
  • Is a peel safe for darker skin?
Peels can be used across a broad range of skin types, but the choice of peel and the preparation matter more for deeper skin tones. That is decided at your assessment – this is exactly where physician supervision matters.
  • What is PRF?
Platelet-rich fibrin. A small blood sample is spun to concentrate your platelets, growth factors and a natural fibrin scaffold. Nothing is added – it is 100% your own tissue.

Chemical Peels

Brighten • Clarify • Refresh • Physician-Selected

Medical-grade peels that reveal a smoother, fresher complexion.

A chemical peel uses a controlled acid solution to remove the damaged outer layers of skin, so fresher, more even skin can come through. At the right strength, a peel can help brighten dull skin, fade sun spots and post-acne marks, smooth fine lines and reduce breakouts. Choosing the right peel for your skin matters as much as the peel itself.

At Valoura Med Spa, peels are medical-grade and selected under physician supervision at our clinic in Savoy, a few minutes from Champaign and Urbana.

WHAT CHEMICAL PEELS TREAT

Targets:

  • Pigmentation and melasma
  • Sun damage and age spots
  • Acne and clogged pores
  • Dullness
  • Fine lines and rough texture
  • Mild acne scarring
  • Uneven tone on the face, neck, chest and hands

TYPES OF PEELS AVAILABLE

Matched to your skin type, concern and downtime.

Valoura uses alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) and beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs). The acid and strength are selected according to your skin concerns, the treatment depth you need and a clinical evaluation.

Our peels:

  • Brightening peels – AHA-based, for dullness, uneven tone and sun spots
  • Clarifying peels – BHA-based (salicylic acid), for clogged pores, oil and breakouts
  • Resurfacing peels – for fine lines, rough texture and sun damage, with strength set at your assessment
  • Peels for deeper skin tones – gentler formulations, selected after assessment to improve tone while limiting the risk of dark marks

RESULTS TIMELINE

Typical Results Timeline

Every patient is different. These are typical ranges, not a promise, and your physician will set your plan.

  • Lighter peels: brighter skin often within about a week
  • Stronger peels: peeling for several days; improvement often visible within 2–4 weeks
  • Number of sessions and spacing: set by your physician, based on your skin and how it responds
  • Sun protection: essential for at least two weeks after any peel

WHAT TO EXPECT

  1. Consultation: skin type, concern and history are checked (including retinoids or acne medication). Skin preparation for 1–2 weeks may be advised.
  2. Treatment: skin is cleansed and the solution applied in layers. Warmth or tingling for a few minutes. About 20–30 minutes.
  3. Recovery: lighter peel – pinkness for a few hours; stronger peel – redness, tightness and peeling for several days.
  4. Results: brightness first, then pigmentation and texture improvement over the series.
