Menopause & Perimenopause Treatment

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to commonly asked questions by patients seeking treatment with Hormone Optimization & Sexual Wellness.

  • How do I know if my hormones are 'out of balance'?
Hormone changes can show up in different ways for different people. Common symptoms include low energy, weight changes, reduced libido, sleep problems, mood changes, brain fog, and difficulty building or maintaining muscle mass.

The only way to know for sure is through a medical evaluation and lab testing. During your consultation, we review your symptoms, health history, and lab results to determine whether hormone therapy is appropriate — and to rule out other causes.
  • Is hormone therapy safe?
When properly prescribed and monitored under physician supervision, hormone therapy can be both safe and effective for appropriately selected patients.

Your plan is personalized based on:

    • lab results

    • medical history

    • risk factors

    • your goals

We use the lowest effective dose and monitor your response closely with follow-up visits and periodic labs. Not everyone is a candidate, and safety always comes first.
  • How soon will I notice improvement?
This varies from person to person and depends on which hormones are being optimized. Some patients notice improvements in energy, sleep, and mood within a few weeks, while changes in body composition, libido, and sexual function may continue improving over several months.

Hormone optimization is a process, not a quick fix, and results are monitored and adjusted over time.
  • Can hormone therapy help with low libido or sexual dysfunction?
In many cases, yes. Testosterone, estrogen, thyroid function, vaginal health, pelvic floor function, stress, and relationship factors can all influence sexual wellness.

We look at the whole picture, not just a single hormone level. Treatment may include hormone optimization, sexual-wellness therapies, lifestyle recommendations, or referral when appropriate. Your plan is individualized and focused on both safety and quality of life.

Menopause & Perimenopause Treatment

Perimenopause • Menopause • Physician-Led

Care for the symptoms of perimenopause and menopause, based on your health and preferences.

Perimenopause can begin years before your last period, and menopause symptoms can last for years after it. Hot flashes, night sweats, poor sleep, mood changes, brain fog, weight gain and vaginal dryness are common – and treatable.

At Valoura Med Spa, a board-certified physician at our clinic in Savoy, a few minutes from Champaign and Urbana, talks through your symptoms and health history and explains your options, including hormone therapy and non-hormonal treatments.

COMMON SYMPTOMS

Many women notice:

  • ✓ Hot flashes and night sweats
  • ✓ Irregular periods (in perimenopause)
  • ✓ Trouble sleeping
  • ✓ Mood changes and anxiety
  • ✓ Brain fog
  • ✓ Weight gain around the middle
  • ✓ Vaginal dryness and discomfort
  • ✓ Lower libido

YOUR OPTIONS

  • ✓ Menopause hormone therapy (estrogen with progesterone when appropriate) – hot flashes, night sweats, sleep and bone protection
  • ✓ Low-dose vaginal estrogen – vaginal dryness and discomfort
  • ✓ Nonhormonal prescription treatments – hot flashes, for women who cannot or prefer not to take hormones
  • ✓ Lifestyle support – sleep, weight, strength and bone health

IS HORMONE THERAPY SAFE?

For many healthy women under 60, or within about 10 years of their last period, the benefits of hormone therapy for symptoms often outweigh the risks. Risks depend on your age, your health history and the type and dose of hormone. Women with a history of breast cancer, blood clots, stroke or heart disease may need a different approach. We go through this with you before any decision.
