Masseter Botox for TMJ, Teeth Grinding and Jaw Slimming
Relieve Tension • Protect Teeth • Slim the Jaw • Physician-Assessed
A hard-working muscle, given a rest.
The masseter is the large chewing muscle at the angle of the jaw. When it works too hard – from clenching, grinding or stress – it can contribute to jaw pain, tension headaches, dental wear and, over time, a wider, squarer lower face. A few minimally invasive Botox injections into the masseter relax it. For many patients the pain and clenching ease, and the jawline gradually looks slimmer.
Many injectors only do cosmetic Botox. As a physician-led clinic, Valoura Med Spa treats the medical side too. Our clinic is in Savoy, a short drive from Champaign and Urbana.
WHAT MASSETER BOTOX HELPS WITH
Best for:
- ✓ Jaw pain and TMJ-related discomfort, when overactive jaw muscles are part of the cause
- ✓ Clenching and teeth grinding (bruxism), including at night
- ✓ Tension headaches that start at the jaw or temples
- ✓ A tired, tight feeling in the jaw on waking
- ✓ Cosmetic slimming of a square or heavy lower face
A NOTE ON EVIDENCE
Botox is FDA-approved for several medical uses, including chronic migraine, which we also treat. Its use in the masseter for TMJ symptoms and bruxism is an off-label but widely used and well-studied application. Masseter Botox primarily addresses the muscular component of jaw symptoms, and not every TMJ disorder results from overactive jaw muscles. That is why our physician examines your jaw before recommending it. It is not a cure for TMJ disorders, and it does not replace dental care, a night guard or treatment of the underlying cause. Our physician will tell you if you should also see your dentist or another specialist.
