Joint Pain Treatment

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to commonly asked questions by patients seeking treatment with Regenerative Medicine.

  • What can PRF be used for?
At Valoura we use PRF and PRP for the face, the under-eye area, thinning hair, selected joint pain and sexual wellness. Each has its own page with details.
  • What is the difference between PRF and PRP?
Both PRF and PRP are prepared from a patient's own blood and concentrate components involved in tissue repair and signaling. Differences in preparation affect their cellular composition, fibrin structure and handling characteristics. At Valoura, we use both PRP and PRF and select the approach based on the treatment area, procedure and individual patient.
  • Is regenerative therapy safe?
Safety is our highest priority. We use products from reputable manufacturers and perform treatments under medical supervision.

We review your medical history, medications, and specific concerns to ensure regenerative therapies are appropriate and safe for you. Some conditions — such as pregnancy, active infections, bleeding disorders, or certain cancers — may mean treatment is not recommended.
  • Do I need an X-ray or MRI?
Sometimes. Your physician reviews any existing imaging and may order additional imaging when clinically indicated. Please bring any imaging you already have.
  • PRP/PRF or a cortisone injection?
They work differently. Cortisone is a steroid that reduces inflammation; PRP and PRF are prepared from your own blood. Neither is better for everyone – which is more suitable depends on your condition, history and goals, and your physician explains the options.
  • Does PRF work for hair loss?
It is best studied for common pattern hair thinning in men and women. Many patients see less shedding and thicker-looking hair, but not everyone responds, and it cannot regrow hair where the follicles are gone.
Physician assessing knee pain at Valoura Med Spa in Savoy, IL

Joint Pain & Regenerative Treatment

Assess • Treat • Move Better • Physician-Led

Joint pain has many causes. The right treatment depends on yours.

Knee, shoulder, elbow and heel pain can come from wear and tear (osteoarthritis), old injuries, tendon problems or overuse. Pain tablets and cortisone injections can help for a while, but many people want other options before thinking about surgery. Regenerative treatments use your body's own healing signals to support the joint and the tissues around it.

At Valoura Med Spa, a board-certified physician assesses your joint at our clinic in Savoy, a few minutes from Champaign and Urbana, and explains which options make sense for you – including when a specialist or surgeon is the better route.

COMMON PROBLEMS WE ASSESS

Common problems we assess may include:

  • ✓ Knee osteoarthritis
  • ✓ Selected shoulder and rotator-cuff tendon problems
  • ✓ Tennis or golfer's elbow
  • ✓ Plantar fasciitis (heel pain)
  • ✓ Selected tendinopathies (long-standing tendon problems)
  • ✓ Other musculoskeletal pain appropriate for regenerative treatment

YOUR OPTIONS

Regenerative medicine options for joint pain at Valoura Med Spa
  • ✓ PRP/PRF joint injections – your own platelet concentrate, injected into the targeted joint or surrounding tissue; the most-studied regenerative option for knee arthritis
  • ✓ Exercise and physical therapy – strengthening the muscles around the joint; may be recommended as part of the overall treatment plan
  • ✓ Referral – to an orthopedic or sports medicine specialist when damage is severe or surgery may be needed

RESULTS TIMELINE

Typical Results Timeline

Every patient is different. These are typical ranges, not a promise, and your physician will set your plan.

  • ✓ Soreness after an injection: usually a few days
  • ✓ Change in pain and movement: usually gradual; timing varies by condition
  • ✓ Number of injections: individualized – planned after your consultation
  • ✓ Follow-up: individualized, based on the condition treated and your response

WHAT TO EXPECT

  1. Consultation: your physician reviews your history, performs an examination, reviews any existing imaging and may order additional imaging when clinically indicated.
  2. Plan: we explain your options, the evidence behind each and the cost.
  3. Treatment: if an injection suits you, it is usually done at the same or a follow-up visit. Ultrasound guidance may be used when clinically appropriate to help accurately target the intended joint or surrounding structure.
  4. Follow-up: pain and movement reviewed; exercise advice given when appropriate.

WHEN TO GET URGENT CARE INSTEAD

A hot, red, swollen joint with a fever, a joint that suddenly cannot take your weight, or pain after a serious injury needs urgent medical care, not a regenerative treatment appointment.
