PRF Hair Restoration

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to commonly asked questions by patients seeking treatment with Regenerative Medicine.

  • What are exosomes?
Tiny particles that cells release to send signals to each other. They carry proteins and growth factors that can influence how nearby cells behave.
  • PRP/PRF or a cortisone injection?
They work differently. Cortisone is a steroid that reduces inflammation; PRP and PRF are prepared from your own blood. Neither is better for everyone – which is more suitable depends on your condition, history and goals, and your physician explains the options.
  • What kinds of results can I expect?
Most patients notice gradual improvement in skin quality, texture, hair fullness, or sexual function over several weeks as the body responds to treatment. Results vary based on the treatment type, area treated, and your overall health.

Regenerative medicine is designed to support and enhance your body's own repair processes, not as an instant or "overnight" solution.
  • Is PRF FDA-approved?
PRF is prepared from your own blood rather than bought as a drug. The equipment used to prepare it is regulated, but many of the ways PRF is used in aesthetic and regenerative care are considered off-label. We explain the evidence for your specific treatment at your consultation.
  • Is regenerative therapy safe?
Safety is our highest priority. We use products from reputable manufacturers and perform treatments under medical supervision.

We review your medical history, medications, and specific concerns to ensure regenerative therapies are appropriate and safe for you. Some conditions — such as pregnancy, active infections, bleeding disorders, or certain cancers — may mean treatment is not recommended.
  • What is the difference between PRF and PRP?
Both PRF and PRP are prepared from a patient's own blood and concentrate components involved in tissue repair and signaling. Differences in preparation affect their cellular composition, fibrin structure and handling characteristics. At Valoura, we use both PRP and PRF and select the approach based on the treatment area, procedure and individual patient.

Hair Restoration with PRF

Your Own Platelets • Non-Surgical • Physician-Led

Support thinning hair with your body's own growth factors.

Hair restoration with PRF uses platelet-rich fibrin – or PRP, depending on your plan – prepared from a small sample of your own blood. The growth factors may help support hair follicles that are shrinking, so hair can look thicker and shed less. Treatment is individualized: it may be given as injections, with scalp microneedling, or as scalp microneedling with exosomes. It is a minimally invasive treatment with no surgery and little downtime.

At Valoura Med Spa, hair restoration starts with a physician assessment at our clinic in Savoy, a few minutes from Champaign and Urbana, so we understand why your hair is thinning before we treat it.

WHO IT HELPS

Best for:

  • ✓ Early to moderate pattern hair thinning in men and women
  • ✓ A widening part or thinning crown
  • ✓ Selected patients with increased shedding after the underlying cause has been evaluated
  • ✓ Patients who want a non-surgical option

Less likely to help:

  • ✓ Areas that are completely bald
  • ✓ Hair loss caused by scarring conditions
  • ✓ Hair loss from an untreated medical cause, such as a thyroid or iron problem

FINDING THE CAUSE FIRST

Hair can thin for many reasons: genetics, hormones, thyroid problems, low iron, stress, recent illness or medication. Our physician asks about your history, and we do laboratory testing when clinically indicated as part of evaluating the cause. Treating the cause matters as much as treating the scalp.

YOUR TREATMENT OPTIONS

Individualized to you.

Depending on your diagnosis and goals, treatment may include:

  • ✓ PRF or PRP injections alone
  • ✓ Scalp microneedling with PRF or PRP
  • ✓ Scalp microneedling with exosomes

When appropriate, your physician may also recommend medical treatment, such as minoxidil, finasteride or dutasteride, spironolactone or other therapies, based on your diagnosis and clinical circumstances.

PRF AND PRP AT VALOURA

Both PRF and PRP are prepared from a patient's own blood and concentrate components involved in tissue repair and signaling. Differences in preparation affect their cellular composition, fibrin structure and handling characteristics. At Valoura, we use both PRP and PRF and select the approach based on the treatment area, procedure and individual patient.

A NOTE ON EVIDENCE

PRP and PRF for pattern hair loss have been studied in a number of clinical trials, and many report better hair density. Results vary, some people do not respond, and maintenance is usually needed to keep results. We do not promise a specific outcome.

RESULTS TIMELINE

Typical Results Timeline

Every patient is different. These are typical ranges, not a promise, and your physician will set your plan.

  • ✓ Thicker-looking hair: commonly 4–6 months
  • ✓ Number of sessions: individualized – planned after your consultation
  • ✓ Maintenance: planned with you, based on your response
